About Jordana Foster

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a double major in print journalism and biological sciences, I put down roots in medical publishing as an assistant editor for Diagnostic Imaging magazine, a monthly publication for radiologists. Although I covered a range of imaging topics, including a mini-beat in socioeconomics during the early days of managed care, I had a particular affection and talent for those assignments that involved sports.

Those affections and talents were taken to a new level when I was named editor in chief of BioMechanics magazine, a monthly publication read by a multidisciplinary audience that included sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and athletic trainers. In my eight years in that position, I had the pleasure of working with some of the most prominent practitioners and researchers in the sports medicine world and beyond.

My promotion to editorial director of both BioMechanics and Applied Neurology, a new publication for neurologists, was a step up the corporate ladder but a step away from the aspects of medical publishing that I loved most. So, in 2005, I left the security of a biweekly paycheck behind in order to devote more time to writing.

Since then, I've sunk my journalistic teeth into such tasty topics as sports-related concussion, vibration training, the role of fatigue in ACL injuries, and the use of fantasy stats in medical research. Meanwhile, my regular weekly coverage of high school sports for the Stow Independent has given me a new real-world perspective that I think makes me a better medical writer and a better writer in general.

I live in Massachusetts' apple country with my husband Dan and our crazy golden retriever mix, Teddy, whose favorite trick is eating whipped cream straight from the can. In our spare time, Dan and I dabble in competitive barbeque (we call ourselves The Pokey Smokers), which is not particularly lucrative but has made us very popular with our friends and neighbors.
