A plea to aspiring young researchers interested in injury prevention: Tennis players could really use your help.
One bit of trivia sums up the state of tennis injury prevention research in a nutshell: At the recent World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in Tromsö, 187 studies were presented in platform or poster sessions. At the previous congress, held in Oslo three years ago, 154 studies were presented. Of those 341 total presentations, none focused on tennis.
Tennis injuries are recognized as a growing problem, as cited by numerous keynote speakers in a symposium on the topic at the Tromsö congress. But quality studies testing various means of preventing those injuries in tennis players are few and far between.
