A volleyball spike that comes out of the back row (also called a pipe spike) can be an effective offensive weapon, surprising defensive players with regard to both timing and ball trajectory.
But spiking from a new location necessitates a change in technique, according to two studies presented at the annual conference of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport.
